The series of artwork presented in this thesis combines image creation with metalwork art. Art has the function of being able to express emotion, as well as having a healing effect. Due to changes in living environments, lacking in social interaction, as well as having difficulties formulating deep connections with the outside world, the author became more and more loneliness and was saddled with many negative emotions. When faced with loneliness and isolation, each person's reaction is different. When the author experienced loneliness, she always craved an emotional connection with the outside world, in order to break away from the sense of alienation, depression, loneliness and chaos caused by loneliness. Through the process of artistic creation, she realized that these negative emotions in her heart gradually eased.
As a result, the author decided to use her own experience of loneliness as the subject matter of her thesis. Firstly, she researched relevant materials related to her subject matter to uncover the factors that cause loneliness, as well as methods to counteract it. At the same time, by writing out her inner thoughts, she was able to look within herself again and again to understand why her experience of loneliness caused these twisted and multiple negative states. Then, she investigates the role of art as healing, and finds out how creating art was able to shift her mood from a negative state into a more positive one. Simultaneously, through analysis of artworks, she was able to see what an atmosphere of loneliness looks like. Hence, she was able to figure out the possibility and methods in which one can use art in order to express the feeling of loneliness. Finally, though her own series of artwork, she was able to explain precisely her own feelings of loneliness, as well as tell of her desire to form deep connections with her family, others and herself, to be able to find an outlet for her feelings of loneliness.
The framework of this thesis consists of five chapters: The first chapter talks about the impetus, purpose and limitations of the thesis. The second chapter investigates feelings of loneliness and art healing. It also analyzes artists and artwork related to this series of artwork. Chapter three looks back upon the author's previous works of art, and explains why she chose to use the artistic mediums that she did to realize this body of artwork. Additionally, she introduces the materials and methods she uses to create her work. The fourth chapter is an analysis of her series of artwork and gives an account of the ideas behind her creations. The fifth chapter is a conclusion to the thesis, and also ponders upon the development of the author's future path.
