I come from the Cikasuan Rinahem commuity in Hualien County's Shoufeng Township(Guan Rong commuity). As a member of the younger generation of the commuity, I endeavor to honor my father's (Lin Zheng-Min/ Takiuy.Budar) commitment to record his sayings and deeds while he was chief of the commuity and also seek to restore the commuity's cultural traditions. One tradition, in particular, the Tingpih of the Cikasuan, is of particular significance to my father, and seeking its revitalization is at the foremost of my agenda. The reason is that the Tingpih is a crucial symbolic item for the male hierarchy of the commuity, representing personal status and ability.
This creativity research thesis wishes to record and preserve village elders' oral traditions and inform posterity of the importance of the Tingpih and other cultural traditions. Video documentation is deployed to confirm the Tingpih's status as a genuine cultural artifact that embodies the glory and value of the Cikasuan people's past. It is also the aim of this thesis to retrieve and recognize the cultural values of our traditions. Visual narration provides a critical documentation technique that could sustain the reminders of village elders to posterity, that the history and culture of the Cikasuan are not to be forgotten, and ought to be passed down to younger generations with stories such as the Tingpih.
