愛德華．威廉．艾爾加（Edward William Elgar, 1857-1934）是英國十九世紀中到二十世紀初重要的音樂家。即便沒有接受過傳統正規的音樂教育，但他通過閱讀、研究他人的樂譜自學，並且努力嘗試創作。他的作品包括早期的合唱音樂、交響曲，再到後期的管弦樂、室內樂、協奏曲。他開創出獨特的英國式風格，可謂復興英國音樂的重要功臣。
　　除了《小提琴協奏曲》作品編號六十一（Violin Concerto, Op.61）之外，艾爾加也寫下另一首重要的小提琴作品《小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲》作品編號八十二（Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op.82）。此曲於1918年完成，題獻給他的好友瑪麗．約書亞（Marie Joshua）。曲子裡面沒有太多複雜的技巧，但優美的旋律線條充分的表現出艾爾加對家鄉的人文情懷。
　　本研究以探討艾爾加《小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲》為主，內容包含十九世紀英國音樂發展概述、作曲家生平，進而探討樂曲分析與詮釋方法，最後以簡短的結語結束此文。

　　Edward William Elgar (1857-1934) is one of the most important British composers from the mid-nineteenth century to twentieth　century. Although he never received formal musical education, through self-learning and composing continuously, Elgar was regarded as the pre-eminent composer in Britain for restoring English music with his distinctive orchestration and melodic inspiration. Elgar’s principal works include early choruses, orchestral music, two　symphonies, chamber music, and concertos.
　　Besides the well-known Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61, Elgar also composed a significant repertoire for violin, the Violin Sonata in E minor, Op. 82, which was dedicated to his friend, Marie Joshua, and completed in 1918. Except complicated violin technique, this composition is full of euphonic melodies that reveal Elgar’s nostalgia.
　　This study will discuss the overview of the music development of British music in nineteenth century and composer’s life. In　addition, it mainly focuses on the music analysis and the performing interpretation.
