Confucius said, "At thirty, I stood independent. At forty, I was full of confidence." As I am on the cusp of my forties, I look back at the past ten years of my life and think, how do I forge ahead in the next decade of my life? I have laughed and I have cried; these are the different flavors one tastes in life. In life, there are no absolutes. Hidden in gain and loss are different blueprints of life. Sometimes, what we might as first perceive as a loss is in actual fact a greater gain than we could have imagined. Chapter one of this thesis talks about how the author shifted from the domain of business administration into the realm of the arts. It describes where the inspiration for her earlier works came from, how she hoped her work would change after embarking on a Masters degree, as well as analyzing the author's creative process. Chapter two describes the study of art, specifically, Yangmingism. The work of art speaks to the creator though the voice of her soul to tell her what form the piece needs to take; art is the symbol of human emotion. Through the work of female artists and a look into their lives, one is able to see how they transform their emotions from life into aesthetic forms. Loneliness arises from persisting in dreams that cannot be understood by others. However, loneliness and fear are actually the springs from which the wells of strength and maturity are nurtured. The third chapter introduces the mediums and techniques used for the pieces created, a summary of the ideas and emotions behind them, as well as the artistic breakthroughs achieved. Chapter four introduces the artist's work, and how she transforms emotions and abstract forms into art, as well as creates a comprehensive record of the pieces created for her Master's degree. The author hopes that through the written records of her creative process, she is able to provide a reference for those who are thinking of shifting from another field of work into pursuing the arts.
