In recent years, fast fashion clothing stores start selling series of co-branded printing clothes. Moreover, some well-known sporting brands start launching printed shoes one after another. In Taiwan, there are also many textile print products promoted in the domestic cultural and creative industry, such as the popular bucket hats in handicraft market. Printing products are causing a wave of consumption and popularity in the global fashion trend. This study explores the fabric printing design through a case study on the Finnish brand Marimekko. The research analyzes the colors and the composition of the printing patterns and the branding styles of Marimekko. By learning from the experiences of pattern designing from the popular international brand, the aim of this study is to provide thoughts and innovation for Taiwanese local brands, in seek of improvements and breaking new grounds. To conduct this research, first of all the chief focus is on the literatures of the knowledge of print designing, including the history of printing, the regional traditional handicraft, and the pattern designs. Next, the method of content analysis is applied on the schema documents of Marimekko, both the colors and composition. The result is further incorporated into a comprehensive report on branding features. Lastly, the current situations of fabric industry in Taiwan, as well as the domestic education system on print designing, are analyzed with suggestions regarding it. The research results in this paper are three-oriented, first, to understand the style and characteristics of an internationally renowned brand; second, to help provide domestic printing design talent cultivation direction of the review and recommendations; third, contribute to the future direction of the fabric industry in Taiwan.
