我在2013年返家工作—泳鴻企業社—2004成立的大理石加工廠，由擁有30餘年石材加工專業經驗的父親執掌—近年來察覺許多同業生產建材後大量剩材造成的問題：剩材堆置、佔用工廠的空間，而剩材回收增加工廠的營運支出，本研究觀察三年內進板材量驟減至50％，而剩材量卻高達4倍。為此，本研究投入石材剩材的運用，讓石材進入新的產品生命週期，循環再使用。
本創作研究透過探討文獻梳理花蓮石材產業歷史脈絡，分析相關石材產品設計，與國內外設計師將石材與異材質結合的案例，歸納整理出運用石材剩料為媒材的產品設計，提出石材剩材產品設計之構想；進而觀察產業現況，透過實際參與、紀錄泳鴻石材廠的加工技術，了解石材剩料的分類細節，實驗測試石材之物理特性。再者，以永續設計為基礎，創作實踐石材剩材的可能性，達到穩定生產、具實用性兩特點為設計考量─不灌膠、不磨粉、不擊碎維持石材原貌─結合自然媒材呈現。最後藉由「石時刻客」展覽，本研究得以透過設計重新詮釋石材之美感。
透過本創作研究的成果了解石材成型的製作過程，並嘗試再設計製程達到永續循環，維持石材原貌以及提高產品良率的成效。也因著在創作實踐中開發新的製程，解決石材剩材的問題，達到永續設計的目標，實踐綠色生命週期的價值。

In 2013, I went back home to work with Yong Hong Enterprise —— the marble processing plant established and run by my father, a professional stone processor with over 30 years of experiences. In the past years, the problems caused by the large amount of leftover stones have been observed in the industry. The leftover materials occupied large spaces in the plant, and the recycling process increased the operational cost. This study observed a 50% decrease of incoming materials in the past three years, whereas the amount of leftover materials increased by four times. This study therefore focused on how to reuse the leftover stones, to bring them into a new lifecycle.

Through examining historical literatures, this study looks into the history and the context of Hualien's stone industry, analyzing various techniques and method of involving stones into design. Meanwhile, the researcher also studies various multimedia works of local and foreign designers that incorporate leftover stones as part of the design, trying to come up with an original design proposal. By observing the industry onsite and documenting the processing technologies of Yong Hong, this study records the details of the classification of leftover materials and conducts experiments on the physical characteristics of each type of stones. Finally, this study presents its original design proposal. Emphasizing sustainability, stable production and practicality, the design proposal incorporates other natural materials and maintains the original appearance of the stone without gluing, grinding, or crushing the stones. Finally, through the exhibition Full in Stone, the study is able to presents its reinterpretation of the beauty of stone through its original design.

This study has examined the stone production process and developed a redesign process to bring in sustainability, to maintain the original facet of the stone, and to improve the quality of product. Through the process of rethinking and redesigning the entire process, this study proposes solutions for leftover materials, achieving the goal of sustainability and creating a green lifecycle for leftover stones in the processing plant.
