This research explores the development of the Mokume-gane in Japan and Taiwan from the 17 century to the present and investgates the value of the Mokume-gane in Taiwan. The three purposes of this research are: firstly, to understand the development of the Mokume-gane context. Based on the literature of the Mokume-gane craft, I find the roles of the craft in different times and places, which lead to its techniques and the unique beauty. Secondly, to explore the aesthetic value of Mokume-gane and its particularity of the process of making. Through the dialogue between Mokume-gane in the history and the contemporary, this research contributes to the understanding of its craft value. The study found that the Mokume-gane takes its beauty by storm in various parts of the world. Its particularity and value lies in its presentation and formation. After many years, the popularity is still decreasing. However, there is no direct impact on the development of Taiwan’s metal process. Despite this, it has become the creation method of Taiwan's creators. |
