The modern world is aplenty with various forms of art; it helps to fill the feeling of emptiness within us brought about by rapid advancements in technology. Human civilization is changing with the blink of an eye. However, if we blindly follow these changing trends in the realms of the art world, we are vulnerable to losing our own direction and vision; we will forget ourselves and our true essence. The most precious aspect of creating a piece of artwork is the creative process itself, to intentionally or inadvertently think outside the box and to search for the unknown places that our hearts and minds yearn for. The subject of this body of creative research is an in-depth exploration into Ruins. In one aspect, it explores the human relationship with ruins, and in another aspect, it penetrates deeply into the meaning and implications of the symbiotic relationship between ruins and nature. During her youth, through an unexpected moving experience, the author began to develop a special curiosity towards ruins. From then on, this experience was engraved in her mind, and has been a source of inspiration for her artwork. By means of observing the interactions and dialogue between ruins and their surrounding environments, the author reflects upon the ups and downs in one’s own life and goes in search for oneself. Moreover, she uses her artwork to unmask her inner wants and desires. The goal of creating is not solely to express ideas, its purpose is also to express emotions. When the author is absorbed in the painting process, she feels positive and joyful. Through symbolic images, compositions of organic forms and abstract expressionist paintings, the author has constructed her vision of the ideal harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The author hopes that through the compilation of this thesis, she is able to summarize the components of creation, to define its niche and moreover to once again experience for oneself the feeling of abundance that nature brings. Through drawing and painting, she hopes to express the concept of humans coexisting harmoniously with nature. |
