This study aims to understand the weights and current conditions of school counselors’ work demands in junior high schools in Hualien County. With questionnaire survey, “questionnaire for school counselors’ work demands in junior high schools in Hualien County” and “questionnaire for weights and current conditions of school counselors’ work demands in junior high schools in Hualien County” are utilized as the research tools. Total 29 school counselors in junior high schools in Hualien County in the academic year of 2017 are studied. The school background contains region, scale, counseling administration organization, counseling administration manpower, and school counselor manpower. Analytic Hierarchy Process is applied to discuss the relative weights of various school counselors’ work demands, calculate the percentage to understand the current conditions of school counselors’ work demands, and use Spearman Rank Correlation to explain the consistency of weights and current conditions of work demands. The research results are summarized as below. I. School counselors regard the importance of proper counseling plans and adequate counseling budgets for the execution of case counseling work. A teacher with counseling competence and counseling teamwork would help school counselors’ case system cooperation. Counseling administrators with counseling competence is regarded as the most important when engaging in counseling related work. The provision of individual supervision budgets and resources from the government is the primary demand for school counselors’ counseling professional development. II. Regarding the current conditions in school practice, school counselors point out dissatisfied work demands as adequate counseling budgets, parents and counseling teamwork, parents with parent function, and the governmental provision of sufficient individual supervision budgets and resources. III. For school counselors, adequate counseling budgets and the governmental provision of sufficient individual supervision budgets and resources are important but inadequate work demands. IV. School counselors present consensus on the weights of “case counseling work” and “case system cooperation”, but disagreement on “counseling related work” and “counseling professional development”. School counselors from different school regions, scales, counseling administration organizations, counseling administration manpower, and school counselor manpower show different current conditions in work demands. According to the research results, relevant suggestions are proposed for education authorities and successive researchers. |
