Mr.Wei-Bin Chen is one of the important local Taiwanese songs writers here in Taiwan. Although not majoring in music, he never forgets and stops composing music even being as a doctor throughout his entire life.With the profound literature and musical quality, deep in his heart, he has been in constant fear of losing Taiwanese songs. Such fear is the main force that drives him to write songs in Taiwanese, with the hope of promoting Taiwanese language through these easy tune. Moreover, the gerenral public can all sing them as well as get the harmony through such graceful melody. For the past few years, Mr.Chen has made every effort to put new energy into Taiwanese songs. He really looks forward to seeing the Taiwanese language always be held in high esteem by the public as time goes by. Mr.Chen’s writing is subject to choir and solo.This essay is based on the seven pieces of his choral works. It is divided into five chapters: The first chapter is to explain the motive, purpose, contents, limits, methods, and steps in this study. The second chapter aims to discuss documents, subjects of the race and the varieties within Taiwanese local music as well as a general description of the sources and style of the Taiwanese songs after the Martial Law was released in Taiwan. The third chapter is to introduce Mr.Chen’s composition of history, style as well as the songs editors. The fourth chapter is to analyze these seven choral works by conducting an interpretation of the background, structure, style, vocals and so on in which his works were produced. The fifth chapter is to conclude and rearrange each section of the contents and to provide my thoughts and suggestions, with a hope of helping promote Taiwanese choral music into a broader scale. |
