This thesis is a study of a conducting interpretation of the nine Hakka choral works by Jin-Ming Lu. Mr. Jin-Ming Lu was a music teacher from 1963 to 1989, and he was also a chorus conductor for fifty years. After his retirement, he was dedicated to teaching, studying, and creating of Hakka ballads. Also, he was the founder of Taiwan Hakka Folksong Chorus and composed a large Hakka musical drama entitled “The Praise for Lord of the Righteous.” In addition, this study will explore the history of Hakka folksongs and Hakka chorus songs. This thesis is divided into five sections: Introduction, Literature Review a summary of Taiwan Hakka ballads by analyzing journal, thesis, and documents, Introduction to the Composer discuss his composition concepts and musical styles through an interview with Mr. Jin-Ming Lu that investigates his backgrounds and creative process, Analysis of Chorus Works and Interpretation of Conduct motivation, lyric meaning, music form, and chorus underlying his conducting interpretation and the ways of how he applies conducting techniques and musical terms, Conclusion and Suggestion with a hope to see more youths enjoy singing Hakka chorus songs.
