Living an aesthetic life has been a common social atmosphere. In terms of lifestyle or product design, aesthetic elements and expression is not only a popular topic but also a major force of a design to catch people’s eyes. Moreover, aesthetic education have been one of the great emphases in Taiwan’s education policies over the years.
With focus on aesthetic education, first of all, this study is aimed to examine educational policies and course programs on industrial vocational high schools in Taiwan. Taking the learning progress and students’ works of a practicum course of Design and Processing as examples, this study is to review and analyze issues in course planning, as well as aesthetic attitude of students. Then, a set of new lesson plans with revised focus of aesthetics, is designed and conducted in a practicum classroom under the current guidelines. The outcomes of questionnaire and feedbacks from students are compared to analyze the progress and competence of aesthetic learning by the new lesson.
The findings of this study reveal three parts: First, based on the outcomes of the questionnaire, it shows aesthetic competence of these high school students is under restrictions; Second, the scoring ratio from the survey result of aesthetic competence is growing after the new lesson class; third, all students are more competent to design their works with aesthetic components. Through the new lesson plans, the students are more capable to apply industrial processing with aesthetic expression, and complete a class work with function and beauty in the class that promotes aesthetic experience. |
