This article investigates perceptions of plagiarism behavior among students in Viet Nam. The purpose of this article is to find out how Vietnamese students understand the concept of plagiarism as well as their views on the reasons for plagiarism - which is being seriously made aware of in society. The descriptive qualitative case study was selected to investigate Vietnamese students' awareness of their plagiarism status in learning English as a second language and highlight the main cultural variables influencing the problem of plagiarism among students in English writing skills. The survey questionnaire, stimulated recall interviews and semi structured interviews were conducted with five participants from various English learning backgrounds in Da Nang City of Viet Nam. The interview responses were audio-recorded and transcribed, then coded using open and axial coding and categorized into themes. Then, I was able to show the impact of cultural values on whether students engage in plagiaristic behaviors was corroborated by the findings. Through this study, I believe the findings of this study might pave the way for future research on plagiarism in cultural contexts, particularly regarding learning English as a second language in Asian countries to reduce the potential of plagiarism. Finally, both teachers and students may become more aware of the cultural factors that influence students’ awareness of plagiarism, which may help them to avoid this violation and being penalized for plagiarism.
