This study focus on experiments is under high-pressure environment, We use Fourier transform spectrophotometer to explore the changes in the interactions and structures between ionic liquid and polyethylene oxide (PEO).
At atmospheric pressure, the changes of anion and cation causely by PEO and ionic liquid mixed in different proportions were observed by infrared spectrum,It was found that the PEO addition will cause blue shift phenomenon of coupled C2-H and C4, 5-H stretching of the cation, while the frequency change of the alkylC-H stretching is almost unchanged, These result indicate that the dissolved PEO mainly affects the C2-H and C4, 5-H bonds of the cationic ring, and there is not noticeable effects for alkyl groups .
Upon changing the pressure, the pure ionic liquid reveals blue shifts with the pressure increased, indicating that the structures of the pure ionic liquid undergo structural changes with the pressure change. The pressure has a great effect on 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide and peak splitting occurs, The mixtures of PEO and ionic liquid have a tendency of blue shift as the pressure increases. A reasonable explanation is that in the changes of high-pressure environments clusters of anions and cations in ionic liquids and mixtures of PEO and PEO with ionic liquids due to pressure elevations, cause variations in the structure of the mixtures. There are various bonding morphologies under pressures and the trends of mixtures and ionic liquids are not the same.
