This study focuses on a Taroko contemporary artist, Wengui Kuo, and his aesthetic practice of art and exhibition space. In addition to Kuo’s art work, the exhibition house established by Kuo, called Dageeli, is included as a main research field as well.
In terms of Kuo’s art work, this study analyzes the cultural characteristics revealed in his oil paintings, such as application of colors, the artistic expression, and meaning within cultural context. Furthermore, this study applies field surveys and interviews, through photography records of related art works, to analyze how art display in the space of Dageeli tribal house.
This study intends to explore the process and aesthetic practice of a Taroko artist and his art exhibition spaces. While analyzing the characteristics of the artist’s creation and exhibition space, the study also discusses the artworks’ impact on customers. The field data and results of this study are helpful not only for the further research on ethnic art creation and display, but also for further understanding of aesthetic concept and practical process of a contemporary Indigenous artist in the society. |
