本研究旨在了解臺灣留學生在留學歷程中的邊界經驗內涵、以及這些經驗帶來轉化,還有促成這些轉化之因素,企圖跳脫日常性的現象和狀況描述,以觸及留學歷程中臺灣留學生此一個體的主觀體會和思考。研究者以立意抽樣方式選取8位於亞洲、美洲及歐洲等地留學的臺灣留學生參與研究,透過半結構式訪談收集其留學時的個人歷程,以敘事研究取向進行資料的歸類,同時引入詮釋學的分析視角,使留學生經驗中具有邊界經驗內涵的不同面向浮現並進行探究。
研究結果發現,臺灣留學生留學歷程中的邊界經驗內涵可分為四部分:1.面對陌生與未知的處境、2.生活於被迫與受催促的處境、3.個體經驗著與周圍在關係上的碰撞、4.「不再如常」之事實帶來身心感知的衝擊。留學歷程的邊界經驗帶來之轉化發生在:1.自我狀態、2.生命的廣度、3.生命的深度三個面向上,並各有1.接納與肯認、2.完整與真實、3.獨立與負責三種轉化狀態。這些轉化的促發因素則可分為四部分:1.進入與向前、2.面對與解決、3.休息和預備等三種個人行動,以及4.周遭的抱持和鏡映。
在提出對於臺灣留學生對於生命本質議題和狀態之思索和體驗後,為深化這些邊界經驗之深度探索、內在整合的潛在可能性,並開拓後續更多相關的探究面向,因此指出研究限制,也對留學生、留學生周遭之重要他人、教育機構、心理專業助人工作者、未來相關研究提出建議。
By focusing on individual's subjective and internal experiences rather than just depicting the outer appearance of their everyday life, this research aimed to understand the connotation of the boundary experience of Taiwanese students during their processes of studying abroad, the transitional experiences brought about by these processes, and the triggering factors of these transitional experiences. The researcher selected 8 Taiwanese students studying abroad in Asia, the Americas, and Europe to participate in the study by means of purposive sampling, and collected their personal experiences during the overseas processes through semi-structured interviews. This research then combined narrative reach for data classification and the interpretation based on the theories about boundary experiences as analytical perspective, so that different aspects of the connotations of these students’ boundary experiences could emerge and be explored.
First of all, the results of the study found that the connotation of boundary experiences of these Taiwanese students could be divided into four parts: 1. Facing unfamiliar and unknown situations, 2. Living in forced and urged situations, 3. The individuals experienced turbulence about their relationships with the surroundings, 4. Physical and mental perceptions arose from the fact of "no longer as usual". Furthermore, the transitional experiences brought about by these boundary experiences occurred in three aspects: 1. Self-state, 2. The width of life, 3. The depth of life. And each had three transitional states: 1. Gaining more acceptance and affirmation, 2. Being more holistic and genuine, 3. Being more independent and responsible. Lastly, the triggering factors of these transitional experiences could be divided into four parts: the personal actions such as 1. Entering and striding, 2. Confronting and solving, 3. Resting and preparing, and 4. Holding and mirroring that provided by the relationships between individuals or provided by the surroundings.
After putting forward the experiential reflections of Taiwanese students on the issues and states of the essence of life through their processes of studying abroad, in order to deepen the potential possibility of internal exploration and integration of these boundary experiences, and to open up more related research aspects in the future, not only the research limitations, but also the suggestions for Taiwanese international students, significant others around Taiwanese international students, educational institutions, professional helpers in psychological area, and future research were pointed out.
