Song dynasty tombs are a major way to study the material and cultural history of the Song dynasty. Apart from the tombs of former emperors, there are also many common people's tombs in the archaeological collection. Among them, the most representative are the general burials in ZhongYuan Region. For a long time, the concept of a tomb as the residence of a deceased person has led to the creation of a "pattern" inside the Song tomb. It is only in the hope that the deceased will reach the state of "immortality" according to the laws of nature, and will be able to have a decent house in the afterlife. As a result, there are often many carved tiles imitating wooden structures in the tombs, and wall paintings depicting everyday life can be seen on the walls of the tombs.
Based on the above, this study uses the Song tomb in Heihegou, Dengfeng as a case study to discuss its connection with Song family ethics through the images of furniture painted in the tomb. First, after sorting out the relationship between the tomb and the house, the study first discusses the individual functions and roles of the furniture in the wall paintings. Second, by comparing the wall paintings with different texts, we hope to find the connection between family and burial by using the records of rituals and funerals in the existing house ritual texts. Through the cross-referencing of family ritual texts with literary works such as journals and anecdotes, we discuss the connotations shared by the tomb paintings and modern furniture. In addition, the distinctive images of the furniture in the tomb paintings reflect the moral values of Song dynasty families. |
