The artist first stepped into ceramics by setting up a personal pottery studio and later has turned to ceramic sculpture after experiencing the limits of the craft. Inspired by works of other artists during the back-to-school period for further study, the artist finally chose to use clay soils as the medium to create abstract 3D modeling artworks. For the artist, the process of artistic creation is a “ritual” of an in-depth dialogue with oneself, and the artworks, the records for life. Through reading relevant literature and organizing the context of thinking, since 2021, the artist has been using modeling clays and slips as the media with the coiling and slabbing techniques to create artworks in three series that combine the organic, geometric, and formally minimalist qualities to display personal emotional states in the Past, the Present, and the Future. Constitution Blue represents the Past and records the contradiction between oneself and one’s family, from which self-healing would be possible. Constitution Black & White depicts the sudden enlightened realization and understanding of the Present. Constitution Red expresses the unpredictable Future as well as the expectation of personal inner state of being. An abstract 3D modeling artwork cannot be created in an unconscious state of mind; the basic question in 3D modeling still needs to be “conceived.” The artist organizes the personal logic with artistic discourses and at the same time establishes the steps of creation and forms of expression for modeling. First start the concept development with words, apply media and techniques to generate the artworks, and then complete the artworks by coloring and firing. During these layers of the transforming process by the artist, transformation not only happens in forms but also becomes the records of the artist’s inner changes. The way of formation also varies thanks to different vocabulary of the artworks in each series. The final chapter of the thesis explains the space presentation concept and artistic creation idea; discusses the meanings of the modeling, colors, and texture; and joins with the very last conclusion.
