Aging population and declining birth rate is a critical issue and also a key factor that will affect future society. In the face of an aging population, the quality of elderly care is becoming more important. This paper explores the thoughts of and difficulties encountered by care attendants through surveying the work satisfaction and resignation tendency of care attendants serving in the elderly care facilities in Hualien. This paper had collected 166 surveys in total with 5 ineffective and 161 effective. Through analytic software SPSS 22, the results showed that most care attendants are married females who age between 50 and 59, with occupation degree, and have served as care attendants for more than 11 years. Of the work satisfaction section, the most satisfactory factor is never working against their conscientiousness and with work stability comes as the second; the least satisfactory factor is promotion opportunity and with salary and benefits comes as the second. For care attendants exhibiting high resignation tendency, they tend to seek other care attendant related jobs. The interview results also revealed that care attendants are satisfied with their work accomplishment and stability while less satisfied with their promotion opportunity and salary and benefits. Such results are much in accordance with the survey results: namely, care attendants value the internal aspect more than the external aspect of their work satisfaction. This paper hopes that through this finding, care attendants’ professional status is promoted and their promotion and reward mechanism (salary and benefits) is structured and improved, which is conducive to increasing work satisfaction and decreasing resignation tendency, and further retains existing care attendants and even attracts more talents to the elderly care industry. |
