This study aimed to explore the participation of primary-school students in hands-on STEM learning, the improvement of their confidence upon the academic subjects taken, the correlations between hands-on STEM learning, positive affect, social support, and confidence enhancement, and the correlation between interpersonal confidence enhancement and academic confidence enhancement. The questionnaire survey was conducted and the primary-school students participating in the PowerTech Science and Technology Hands-on Creation Contest for Youth were sampled purposively. A total of 605 questionnaires, of which related literature and research instrument were used for scale construction, were distributed accordingly. Regarding the 562 valid questionnaires out of the 605 questionnaires distributed, both SPSS and AMOS were used for sample characteristics analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis. The findings are: (1) A significant difference exists between different genders regarding their confidence awareness of academic subject improvement. (2) The correlation between positive affect and social support is significantly positive. (3) The correlation between social support and confidence enhancement is significantly positive. (4) The correlation between interpersonal confidence enhancement and academic confidence enhancement is significantly positive. (5) Both positive affect and social support create indirect effects upon confidence enhancement. The conclusion of this research supports the idea that hands-on STEM learning activities can cultivate positive learning affects while encouraging as well as leading peer interaction and cooperation. As far as future research is concerned, the relations between social support and confidence enhancement can be further probed into in accordance with different theoretical foundations or different proportional sampling conducted by different counties/cities; the impacts of different types of scientific and technological contests upon the inner beliefs of students are another direction as well.
