The current research is dedicated to exploring the relationship between seniors’ motivation of participation in leisure sports and life satisfaction. Altogether 122 questionnaires were issued to seniors from six Senior Citizens Learning Centers in Hualien and 122 valid ones were retrieved with effective recovery of 100%. A questionnaire specifically designed for the purpose of the current study was used as the research tool. Data analysis was performed using tools such as descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product difference correlation analysis. Our findings indicate: 1. A majority of the participants were female seniors over the age of 75 having come to the center for less than 5 years with elementary education and moderate economic status. 2. The motivation of participation in leisure sports for seniors differed between ages. Seniors between 70-74 years old demonstrated better physical fitness and interpersonal interaction than those for seniors over 75 years old. Life satisfaction varied by ages, education background, locations of the learning centers. Seniors between 60-64 years old displayed more positive attitude toward aging and higher life satisfaction than those of other age groups. Self-taught seniors showed more positive attitude toward aging and higher life satisfaction than those with college degree. Those having come to the learning centers for more than 10 years had more positive attitude toward aging than those having participated for less than 5 years. 3. There was a positive correlation between motivation of participation in Leisure sports and life satisfaction for participants from the Senior Citizens Learning Centers in Hualien.
