The current study aims at applying the principles of fun-oriented physical education to third-grade math education in order to boost learning attitude as well as performance. In addition, problems, respective strategies, reflections, and growth from the author in the whole process are addressed. 19 third-grade students in Hualien were selected to participate in this 8-week-long process covering 4 math units; each 80-minute-long unit was taught using the teaching strategies specifically-designed for this study based on the principles from fun-oriented physical education. Action research was adopted as our research tool for analysis. Through observation, interview, questionnaire, record from collaborative teachers, and test results from before and after the intervention, we were able to explore the effect of fun-oriented teaching strategies on students’ learning performance. Main findings from this study are threefold: 1. The four units included in the current study are division, liter, milliliter, and time, where students showed positive improvement in terms of the two-step calculation involved. 2.Teaching strategies based on principles from fun-oriented physical education yielded promising results as far as learning performance is concerned. 3.Application of principles from fun-oriented physical education to third-grade math teaching demonstrated a positive effect on students learning attitude.
