The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the pandemic on the values and career choices of professionals in the hospitality industry, using Hualien hotels as a case study. Employing qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews and literature analysis, the viewpoints and experiences of hospitality workers in Hualien were gathered. The research findings indicate that the pandemic has had far-reaching implications for these individuals. Firstly, the pandemic has sparked a heightened concern among the public regarding personal health and safety. This has led to shifts in the values held by both the hospitality industry and its practitioners, prompting a reevaluation of their perspectives on work. There is now a greater emphasis on factors that were previously disregarded. Consequently, this has caused a change in the criteria they use when making career choices. Secondly, the pandemic has resulted in a standstill within the tourism industry, leading to a reduction in job opportunities within Hualien hotels. As a result, employees are grappling with job instability and economic pressures. This predicament has a reciprocal effect on their career decisions and growth. Some individuals may even contemplate switching careers or seeking opportunities in other industries to mitigate the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic. Hence, it is imperative for managers within the hospitality industry and policymakers to take heed of the needs of these employees and respond by providing increased support and assistance. This would aid them in effectively managing the challenges posed by the pandemic and in fostering their professional development |
